There are several parking spaces for Cleancar/EV etc but Costco customers disregard this and park their non-qualified vehicles in these spaces. Why doesn't Costco do something about this?

Unless it's a charging station, actually restricting parking based on emissions will give reason for people to be upset. Especially for prime spots. The environmental benefit of electric cars are still up for scientific debate. The nearby Target moved their low emissions vehicle parking spots to the end of the lot, which solves the problem of having the legally required spots of dubious benefit without actually taking away high use spots.

Why do low emissions vehicles merit closer parking?

William Doyle | Dec 30, 2017

There are limits to what Costco can enforce. The city is not responsible for the signs that Costco puts up. Being that it is privately owned property the city may not be able to enforce anything... and Costco loves customers so they won't piss anyone off even if they park in the wrong spot.

I own a 2015 Camaro, the emissions are great compared to those in the 70s. I consider it low emissions therefore I can park in those spots if I'd like to.

EV and hybrids pollute more than regular cars. Get over yourselves. You've been duped into thinking you're actually doing something good for the environment. Lot Nazi says, "NO CLOSE SPOT FOR YOU!"

I always park in the back and walk, it is good for you to stretch your legs anyway. Look at it this way, the person helped you out. If you are thinking this is an issue then you probably need the exercise anyway. Unless they are charging stations then the EV parking is a joke anyway. You need to explain why you should get special parking up front for owning a low emissions vehicle? If you are truly about saving the environment then take the spot in the back as you will not be driving as far. You will also get the added benefit of some additional exercise! Win-Win!

It's called virtue signaling. Costco wants customers to think of Costco as good for the environment, so they create parking spaces for low emission / van pools. There's no law (as far as I know) that the police could use to ticket /tow people that they could if you parked in a handicap parking space without the proper permit.

I find it hilarious about the EV haters. You act as if EV drivers asked for these parking spots. No one petitioned for it. It’s there because the lot owners decided to put them all. So why wouldn’t EV drivers use them?! I’m sure if you could afford another car, as a commuter car, you’d be parking there too!! So stop hating and go troll elsewhere.

Funny how people justify bad choices. While nobody is held accountable to parking in these spaces, the only reason to ignore it is if you care more about yourself than the others disappointed when you do.

I agree with the other comment. I would add that Costco is not authorized to enforce parking regulations. They must contract out to a towing company or ask a private or city police to take care of this issue. On a more esoteric note trying to determine what is a low emissions vehicle, as opposed to a standard emissions vehicle, is not really clear cut.,
