You can be there for 1 week or 3 months it really depends on why your there and if they think your stable enough
My wife was a 7-day self-commit. They kept her for 3-weeks based on her delusions while they over-medicated her that she was badly abused at home, all exaggerated, unsubstiated.
No easy answer on that. Really depends on why the patient is there.
