We are a Bible-base, Christ-centered recovery center for the broken, addicted and abused. Anyone with a record must register first with the local police, submit to drug screening & agree to participate in our recovery program. There are restrictions on where people can go within the center & on our grounds. If rules are broken, they are no longer in our program. We have a very good reputation with the local police & work closely to assure the people we care for & the community at large remains safe. For over 90 years we have been doing this in Aurora & our reputation remains untarnished, thanks to God. Each person is also assigned a mentor from a local church which is just one aspect of the recovery process. Our graduates & staff work together to assure that newcomers to the recovery program adapt well & assimilate to a very structured recovery process that we have in place. We accept all who are broken, addicted abused or otherwise homeless as Christ commanded his Church.

I have been a wayside volunteer at the womans shelter. It is a well run program. It is a structured program to help humanbeings get to a better point...IF they want to work at it. Many residents drop out it's too hard. I'm all in favor of giving them a hand up, for their own good, and it will benefit their family and the community. It is a long term goal and benefit for all of us.

So you aren't concerned how the community feels and you don't care what they think. I for one am boycotting your location and will not patronize place or donate anything Money, items ect to someone who doesn't care what the community who has supported them since they opened.

Many years ago I was one who was hitch hiking across the country looking for something more to life than what I knew so far. Wayside gave me a place to sleep and fed me. Not only that, they gave me friendship and accepted me where I was. They weren't pushy about God, just answered any questions I had. I could have left anytime and go back to searching for something more. But after two weeks I had seen real care in the staff and knew I wanted to let God into my life. I was able to stay and learn about how God wanted to show His love for me. I was able to pass that love on to others. I'm so thankful for all that they do. And that they were there when I had no safe place to go. Ellen Brouwer
