Some of the trail is paved. On the MacGregor @Scott side, there's a workout area under a canopy and new paved areas up to Calhoun are being constructed. When finished it will be a smooth concrete trail perfect for running and bike riding.
It's a linear park on the bayou and in some places trails on both sides but not all. Seldom paved, but some is. I would say maybe 10 miles each way, depending where you start.

I also. As I know it is not a loop. Safety. Nicely. Few dozens of miles. I rode here several times. I like this trail
