I don't think you have to be present. I would recommend going with him and bringing identification to verify him, but once he gets his membership card. You won't have to be there with him.
No but to be on the safe side you just have to be there with him
He should be fine. They don't ask for id, when he hands them the pass they will just scan his fingerprint for future visits.
