You can rent the weapon to try it out. Buying a decent gun starts around 150-200 bucks. You don't need much else for gear except eye protection and mouth protection. The community is quite welcoming so see if other people will let you hold their weapons if you don't know what you want.
All the prices are on the website, all you need is a full face mask which comes with a gun rental.
