California does have several odd gun laws. While there is no permit required, you are required to pass a firearms safety test to receive a certificate that is good for 5 years. You cannot be a felon to purchase a firearm. There is a 10 day waiting period from purchase to delivery of the firearm. Central Valley Guns carries a good selection of pistols, rifles and shotguns, plus they are happy to special order if there's something you have your eye on. Cost is variable. They can be fairly inexpensive for a rimfire rifle or single shot shotgun, to thousands of dollars. It all depends on what you're looking for.
