Honestly, as a local, if you stay within 5 miles-ish you should be alright. Our police are a little more focused on keeping trouble where visitors and tourists don't have to worry so much. My rule of thumb is to never stay some where with a color or number, but I also have to retract that statement because I came to Atlanta for a show and the Motel 6 downtown is pretty good for the price. Just do your research. Uber isn't too expensive in Nashville either, unless you're visiting on a weekend or if a HUGE event going on. Music scene is great though. Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip!
We stayed at the Russel. It is really nice. I'm not sure if it is the closest, but one of our favorites.
