If it's the 'annual physical', they take the temp, check the ears, eyes, nose, heart, give whatever shots are due, etc. They'll ask questions about eating/drinking habits, what food you give the pet, if you have noticed anything 'off' w/the pet, etc. For cats, they want you to bring a stool sample. I don't know if that's true for dogs. They'll do a claw trim too, if you ask. You can tell that Dr Felix actually cares about the pet. It's not just about the money. (He won't spend 20 minutes chit chatting b/c he knows all your pet wants is to go home.)
He'll check your pet over, do a full exam, take weight, and ask lots of questions regarding the issue you're there for. If your pet needs meds, he'll give you that as well. He is an amazing, knowledgeable doctor. He's very personable as well as compassionate. Dr. Felix is the best.
