I have my ss card, birth certificate, my drivers license and only one piece of mail from the police dept on which both of which have my current address.....is this sufficient? Or Am I required to provide two pieces of mail to back up my DL address?

You just need one piece of mail with your name at your current address...a lease or even a bill will also suffice.
