I keep loosing fish due to them getting sucked onto the pump tub,,is there some kind of guard I can put around it so the fish aren't getting sucked onto it and dieing?

There are filter covers you can buy, but it sounds like your pump is too powerful for ypur tank size. It also depends on the fish, some need more tranquil water flow.

Put one of your nylons around the filter the water will go through with no problem but it won't let the fish through
