I think they would consider that a "weapon" even though it's for self protection. Probably a question that would be best answered by calling Customer Service

YES, one 4oz. container of MACE or Pepper Spray can be checked in your luggage ONLY if it has a safety mechanism to permit accidental discharge. Self defense spray containing 2 percent mass or more of tear gas (CS or CN) is PROHIBITED!

No.. you can not bring mace in a checked bag. Lots of cargo holds are pressurized. If the mace were to pop off during flight it could go throughout the plane and they would have to land. It is not allowed. You can go to TSA website for a list of prohibited items.
