First reply is accurate. Plus the cost of a tool box if you don't already have the required tools. If you don't, I think the box is about 500. You also get paid to go to school tho, not adequate to the field rate at all however.
35 dollars to take the test. Test is given once a year any time between march and may. If you pass the test you will need a company to sponser you. Then you will embark on 4 years of apprenticeship and schooling. Then you become a journyman if you last.
