New Bern was the original capital of North Carolina and Tryon Palace was the Governor's Palace when the colony was established. It was then removed and a road was built in its place. Then in the last 2-3 decades a group of local people founded a fund and initiative to rebuild the structure and this is how the current Tryon Palace was established.
Tryon Palace was built by British Governor William Tryon to be the seat of North Carolina's government when it was under British rule. There is a lot of historical information that can be found on our website - I recommend digging a little deeper and exploring the important role this site played in the state's history.
