Apples are one of the best fruit trees to grow here. Not all apple trees are hardy for our area but there are many that are. Rest assured the ones we carry all do well here. We bring our trees in in the Fall including fruit trees and it's an excellent time to plant them. Our fruit tree inventory is already getting low on some varieties, but as of this we still have some apple trees. We will be closing for the season on October 15, 2021 this season.
I've been told that fall is the best time to plant trees in this area, when our cooler temperatures begin. During this time of the year the tree's growth has slowed way down along with the cooler outdoor temperatures. Planting when the tree is in its non-growing season puts less stress on it and allows for the root base to slowly adjust to its new home. But, make sure to plant well before it snows and before the Modoc mornings drop below freezing. Fall is the best time to plant, is what I have been told.
