The Community blood center is a local noon profit formed to provide blood to hospitals at lower cost than the red cross. They are part of a network of locally controlled community blood centers across the country.
I've donated 37 gallons to the Red Cross. I've recently been donating through Community Blood Center and I find it much more rewarding. It's much more personal and I know that they're providing the blood products for far less money than the Red Cross. While Red Cross is a good organization, it is still a massive well funded beaurcracy that has very high overhead and a tremendous number of people on the payroll. It's closely associated with the government and is therefore inefficient and oversized. Community Blood Center is small, agile and provides the blood products for less money!
