The records of all WWII servicemen are in St Louis. I recommend that you go to a local air force recruiter, they can provide you a form to inquire about his records. My father drove on the Red ball Express, and I went to a local Army recruiter in NJ and I was able to get the form and get my father's records and even replacement medals. Perservere, as it will take time to get an answer. In total, it took about a month just to get a reply, and about another year to receive the medals. Good Luck !
Try searching on Google. My Uncle was a gunner on a B17. The Bomb Group (456 H) Association has it’s own website. I’d try to see if his Group has info online. I’m searching now to see if I can identify the missions he flew. He came home and lived to his early 50’s but the “battle fatigue” aka PTSD shattered his life. He went away a vibrant young plan planning a career in Architecture. He came so mentally devastated he had to undergo electroshock treatments. Sadly, he was so heavily medicated half the time he didn’t even know where he was. His pre-war girl “dear johned” him. Fortunately he met my Aunt, who was serving as a Nurses Aide at the VA Hospital. They married and she took care of him for the rest of his life. There are some excellent books out there-Gerald Astor’s is one.
I'd definitely go to the museum they have lots of volunteers who know there stuff, unfortunately I'm not one...sorry best wishes
They keep records there. You might be able find out something at the museum
