I would certainly ask for the Manager and if they don't honor your 20% off then contact the Corporate office and file a complaint. I have had to do that for two business and I got results immediately! Good luck!
Was there Sunday and found out they have a new manager. Old manager clashed with district manager so he quit. Big lots employee told me new manager is being really strict with the 20% discounts. I did not have a coupon but she said new manager told employees to not give discounts to people without coupons. She told me that was stupid because of all the signs outside saying 20%. She gave me 20% off and was giving everyone the discount. She told me if I don't see her next week that means she was fired.
Next time ask for the manager he should be able to fix things
