Best way depends on where from in NJ. Park is free, but parking is very, very expensive. Second best way is driving, but park on street in brooklyn or queens and than take subway to park.
Best transportation from New Jersey to Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village is to take the Path to either Christopher Street station or the 9th Street and 6th Avenue Station. Washington Square Park is a NYC public park and it is free to enter and enjoy. There is parking garages around the park, but you will have to pay to park in these garages and they are very expensive. On the street parking is almost unheard of in Greenwich Village.
Best way is path train and there is no parking lot and street parking is hard around there
