An executor is the person who was named by the deceased to execute the provisions of the will. Once the probate court appoints the person named by the deceased as the executor, he or she can administer the estate. The executor is typically someone close to the deceased, such as a spouse or adult child. A trustee, on the other hand, is in charge of the affairs of the trust and requires no permission from the probate court to settle the estate.
