Wireless services are provided over the air over large distances. This requires radios; not your average home wireless router. Transceivers are mounted on towers and a parabolic, focused dish on your house pointed at the nearest tower. Supporting this infrastructure is NOT inexpensive, however, if you are in an un-served (or poorly served) area that they cover, its up to the user to decide if it is financially acceptable. Compared to other radio based ISP's (called WISPs), UBI is very competitive and reliable.
Unwired is VERY reasonable pricewise. Having my searches redirected, speed throttling & terrible customer service are reasons we left Spectrum, AT&T & Charter. Plus, Unwired had a 2 yr Hulu subscription included. +10 for overall everything Unwired phone hours could be expanded for after office hours, holidays & weekends.
