I would say no to your question about coffee and pastries. I'm assuming you're going before the lunch rush. No need to make reservations for that. My son and I had lunch there during the week last week, around 1 a clock and were seated pretty quickly, no reservation necessary. Of course the weekends are an entirely different story.
This place gets very crowded on weekends - planning is strongly advised. During the week it os not as crowded.
This place was not good, the bread was good, food and drinks are bad...
Kind of depends when you go and how many people. Outside of key weekend times you can snag a seat at the counter with no reservations and get the same menu service.
