The ship was never sunk, nor defeated. It was laid down the 16th of October 1942. It's nickname was the "Pirate Of The Pacific" and was awarded 12 battle stars. If you want a unique opportunity to see how our brave sailors lived and fought, then I highly reccomend touring this amazing vessel.

Correct it never sank. My grandfather was serving on it at the time. They called him Pappy as he was older than the other sailors. He used the kamikaze attack as a teaching moment. The plane hit right below his gun. He and 2 others stayed and lived. Others ran and the bomb blew sideways killing them. He always said never run!

The USS KIDD never sank. She was damaged in April of 1945 by a kamikaze, but was able to rejoin the war soon after repairs. She is still afloat in Baton Rouge on the Mississippi serving as a historical naval ship.

The replies above are correct. It never sank. Though it sustained heavy damage at picket station 11 in 1945 it was able to rejoin her task group while enemy's continually tried to finish her off.
