I'm no expert, but I would say work within your budget and from top down. Any ceiling lighting that you want to do, then cabinets & counters, sink, then any appliances that you want/need to upgrade, then same with any pots & pans, plates, silverware, etc. When it comes to counters and cabinets, personally I would recommend saving up to do that in one shot for two reasons: 1. a bundle deal, and 2. consistency/coherence. In the end, you want it all to match, and if you do a partial job, you might find the exact matching product unavailable. Those are my thoughts, for whatever they're worth.
