Jerry D stands for the owner's name Jerry Dotterweich. Jerry sold his original bar, restaurant and carryout with the name which was and still is Jerry's Belvedere Friendly Tavern. It is actually located on the corner of Northern Parkway and York Road. Northern Parkway was extended in the early 70's which connected The Alameda using part of the original Belvedere Avenue. Belvedere Avenue now ends at Bellona where Northern Parkway carries a heavier traffic load. Several businesses on York Road were forced to relocate where the widened Northern Parkway runs parallel to the existing Belvedere Avenue. Jerry purchased a nearby 5 &10 store which he remodeled creating a bigger carryout store and dining rooms. Jerry bought several properties at Harford Road & Taylor Avenues about ten years later. He created Jerry D's, Jerry D's Seafood, and Jerry D's Catering. I think there may have been a sub shop in addition. The catering business now operates along with the restaurant under one roof.
