If you start at Battery Park you will go to Liberty first, then Ellis. If start on the New Jersey side, it is just the opposite, Ellis, then Liberty.

Even if you start from Battery Park the stop at Liberty Island is just about 10 min.

You can go to ellis island then they will take you to statue of liberty
