Casual is not one of them, even if you do nice pair of jeans it's good to let it go with a blouse and some heels or nice boots .. never causal like sneakers hats, construction boots, is not accepted AT ANY EVENT

The dress code is not overly formal e.g. jeans with shoes, sneakers wth nice attire. Just like the others mentioned, it's definitely depends on the event.
To be safe for any and every event, I suggest a very fashionable style of dress. I was just a the Venetian Masquerade event this past Friday, I did see a few pairs of sneakers.
