We just stayed in a Beach villa which meant that we overlooked the beach / ocean. That was perfect for me but that being said, there's something for everyone. My Beach villa was right by the entrance to the property and therefore very accessible to restaurants and on the island but off the property things. We would take the tram or drive to the other end of the property, the north side, where the marina, Sunset Beach and the very beautiful pool complex is.
To walk from an oceanfront building to beach takes 5 minutes or so. There really is not a "main building" as the resort is a number of buildings spread out over a large area. That's why there is a free tram available...to walk from the south side if the resort (where there are restaurants and tennis, etc) to the north side (where there are pools, marina, restaurants, arcade, etc) would be impractical, especially ir you are travelling with kids. You need a ride. The resort is expansive and that's part of why it's great.
Depends on what you like. If you want to be near pool, or spend more time at beach. I enjoy walking out of my unit and being on the beach. Easier to carry my stuff. Others spend more time at pool. It isn't a far walk either way.
Team, bike, or walk; walking is best because you can see osprey overhead and in palm trees as you walk. Oh, and it's better for your health and the planet if you walk.
These building are all separate living areas spread out. This is not like a resort. It's private and lovely. The advance of being close to the beach is less driving.
I say by the ocean
The resort is quite spread out, just about anywhere you go within the resort you'll take a tram, drive and park or walk.
