It sounds like you got a newer person sticking you. Also, and I'm just guessing by the tone of your text, but you where probably a little bit of a jerk about it and made them nervous and they pulled the needle by mistake. Sometimes the poke works and sometimes it doesn't. The only thing the Tech can really control is how many times they move the needle. If it's not working after they have moved it once or twice then they should try the other arm.
