I loved Father Bill. I actually cried when I found out that he was leaving. He made me feel more welcome and at home on church than I have felt for a long time. I’m really sorry that he left, and if the rumors are true.... I’m really upset by those who spoke out against him. He is a wonderful priest
He mocked, from the pulpit one Sunday, people that pray the rosary, novenas and believe in indulgences. I believe he also said something to the effect of the Ten Commandments are rules for those who are not reasonable.
Fr Bill was encountering a small group of very active people that did not like his more liberal views. They were more like Sadusee's and Pharacee's and followed the web site "Church Millitant". Fr Bill moved to Southern Pine and works for Cross International.
Fr Bill is an amazing priest. His homilies were incredibly insightful and inspiring. He truly gets Jesus' teachings and how to apply them. Never was so excited to attend church. Really terrible that he was forced out. He was a breath of fresh air and I thought his changes were great. Too bad this so called small faction didn't recognize his brilliance and threatened the Bishop to force him out. If that is indeed true, the Bishop should have stood up and supported Fr Bill.
I had dinner with Father Bill last week in Pinehurst. He now lives in a condo in Southern Pines. I think he was a breath of fresh air. I miss him and will always be his friend.
Thank you for taking the time to share this information. What happened is sad. I miss the refreshing, short-lived changes in church. It seems this whole lamentable event allowed pride to take preference over kindness.
I don't know what happened. I heard he resigned.
