I have a large tree in our front yard (that is an unattractive & messy birch tree). We are constantly having to pickup dead branches. I want to cut it down and put in a new tree. If we have the trunk ground out can I replant a tree at the same spot?

Also depends on how big the root ball is of new tree. Birch trees have many shallow roots.
