We just recently buried my dad. The urn was the size of a standard vase for a bouquet. It was about 6 in dia x 10 in tall. My mom was not in the military, and can be buried in the same plot and they place her name at the back of the stone. If she were buried in a casket, they would move the grave to a location with larger ones.
My father was buried there in a casket, so I apologize, but I do not know anything about how the urns work. What I was told about my father's wife eventually getting buried there is that yes, she can be buried there, but would not have her own spot or stone. They said she would be buried in the same spot that my father is at. That they basically stack the caskets one on top of the other and there would not be a marker for her because she was not a veteran nor in the military. Now just to make it clear, that is what we were told by, I assumed, was staff from the cemetery at my father's ceremony.

Are urn vaults required at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery for in-ground burial of cremains?
