Do they take credit/debit cards yet or is it still only cash or check?

Yes but i think they charge a small fee

All the BMV offices in the state of Ohio began accepting credit/debit cards in July of 2016. There is $1.95 fee to use a debit card, and a 1.95% fee to use a credit card with $1.95 minimum. For the Johnstown office in particular, we also process Ohio watercraft registrations and have a title service, in which we run titles out of town for people and get them processed. For these 2 transactions, we can only accept cash or check. thank you for using the Johnstown License Bureau!

I always do checks, last time I was there, they did have a charge for a card.
