Try putting leaves or a little dirt from outside in litter box.

You can try 2 other things. 1 if you see the kitten trying or going hurry and place the kitten in the litter box and if you are to late place the kittens waste in the litter box. The smell will help the kitten understand where to go.

Place the kitten in the litter, take it's little paws and rub it back and forth gently a few times. The kitten will understand. Be patient.
