Close to river, with in the old walls is clearer, esp. at spring head. But you can also swim in the river. Usually downstream or just hang out in an area of tree roots.
Water is always highly tannic here. Yes brown year round although very clear. Swimming is better when water is low in the summer and better for canoeing when it is high in the fall and winter.
The water levels are high at the moment.
