Civilians are banned from owning any assault weapon manufactured after 1986. If firearms frighten you, perhaps you should consider relocating. Russia and mexico have very tight restrictions on civilian ownership of firearms....you could start there :)
They don't make assault rifles. Assault rifles have been banned since 1986 for all except military and those that have a federal firearms license, so you need not worry about that.
