Rent a pole no buy bait yes, but it's a bit back before you get there called crazy lure, Honestly BaitStation in North Fort Myers is a better place, but they close I believe around 6 or 7 PM Walmart sells rod and reels so should be able to catch most of the fish out there. I have a YouTube channel called YouTube.com/MatthewHKnight I talk about how to fish that river and places you can get bait and what bait to use.
Some great points by Matt Knight. I agree about buying a rail and rod from Walmart for around $40. However you can buy live shrimp bait at the at the Snook Hut in Cape Coral on Cape Coral Parkway. Buy a small blue bait bucket and an aerator for about $10.
