The Market has a 2 hour discount parking deal with the Hilton Garden Inn garage at 11th and Arch ($4) and the Parkway garage at 12th and Filbert ($5).you can stay longer but the discount expires. If you take the train, you’ll come into 30th at station and then take SEPTA to Jefferson Station (about 5 minutes); we’re directly across the street from Jefferson Station.
We come from Lancaster too and usually take the train then either walk (about 25 minutes from train station) or use Septa. There are plenty of parking garages near, although the earlier you arrive the better for those, but we avoiding driving and parking simply because of the headache and stress.
The parking is expensive. I paid $30.00 for about 3 hours. We went to Septa to get a senior citizens new card which took longet than expected due to long wait. Then from there went to Reading Terminal. The lines moved quickly. Taking the train is probably more convenient but we had another place to be so driving down was convenient for us plus we had quite a few bags with us. I suggest get down there early to avoid crowds.
I personally use Septa and right now that is my only mode of transportation.
There are several parking garages close to it. You can also take the train then walk or take public transit and skip the hassle of driving in Center City.
Parking is expensive and limited especially in the summer. Best to take the train.

I recommend the train parking is definitely rough more so considering the time of day.
There are two parking garages that they validate for if you spend $15.
