Depending on where you live, there are places to go such as FAU where you can take the rapid covid test and have an answer in about 20 minutes or the PCR test and have answer in a day or two. The PCR test is more thorough.
If you're traveling domestically, you won't need a COVID-19 test before your flight. If you are traveling internationally, you must obtain a PCR test when you're returning from the United States, at the very least. Check with the state or country you're traveling to for their specific policies. You can read Southwest's policies on COVID here: https://www.southwest.com/coronavirus/ If you need a COVID test, get a PCR test. They're available at places such as CVS by appointment.
