I would suggest that you go to Oregon.gov and enter "Oregon State ID." In Oregon there is now two types of ID's: The normal one or A "Real ID." In a few years a "Real ID" while be required for flying in any commercial airplane. If there is a chance your dad might need to fly then I would suggest getting one now. Otherwise you might have to spend more money and perhaps even more valuable in the long run. I was at the Medford DMV last week and they are doing appointments and walk ups. Appointment seem to be like 6-8 weeks. For walk ups you scan a barcode with a smartphone and then hang around near the DMV office and you should get a message when you are called. One last thing I would mention is that when they tell you it is your appointment time beware that you are going to have to take a "number" and wait inline. I happened to have around 20 people in front of me. However, surprisingly it only took about 20-25 minutes.
