You don't just spray elephants with water the experience is more than that. On arrival you get to feed either a baby goat, horse porcupine or a wallaby. You also get to cuddle the wallaby, stroke the kangaroos and feed the giraffes, this is before you enter the elephant enclosure. Once in the elephant enclosure you get to feed the elephants, stroke them and wash them, if you are a total elephant lover then this is the ideal experience. I loved every minute and worth every dollar.
You have to consider the cost of properly caring for these animals. I would rather pay more to see these animals in an environment that cares about their needs over an experience that's more affordable and entertaining to people where animals aren't treated as they should be.
The cost of keeping these animals in a positive environment vs. the value of experiencing these animals up close. To me this is a push. The care Wilstem gives these animals and the experience I had there is the best! The cost you say is not worth it is relative to your income level. $81 dollars to one person isn't the same for the next.
We just went for the encounter. I was ok with the price for that. Was definitely NOT going to pay for the spa. I think the encounter alone was good enough, especially since I had 2 children under 8 years old.
What were you expecting to do with the elephants?
Thanks! This likely answers a lot of people's questions.
It's 250$ a piece at the Cincy zoo to learn about them and have one on one bathing, feeding and interacting
