I'm fairly certain you will have to go in because you will have to prove your identity. Look online for appointments in any nearby dmv office. Otherwise check the wait times online to judge the best time to go in. Bring a book, relax, it will be over before you know it!
If you haven't tried already, booking an appointment online is your best bet. If you lost it, you can start your paperwork online and write down the confirmation code to bring in. It makes the process a bit faster (if not you have to do it when you get to the dmv, and really, why prolong your visit?). Mine was stolen; definitely had to go in to get a replacement. Good luck!
