I live in an apartment building that doesn't provide pest control. I had a problem with roaches when a neighbor moved; I purchased some stuff at U-Kill'Em and it killed all of them. Recently have a problem with ants and I did the same thing; what I purchased has helped but I still have some ants. Not sure if it takes longer or if it did not work as well.
If you go to publix in Melbourne shopping center, they have this small bottle called ant kill and put a drop all where they travel spaced about 6" apart and about 2 weeks they will be gone. $4.00 You will never use the whole bottle about 3" tall 1" round and has a blue cap. Only publix I know has it is their off Babcock and hibiscus skake well.
