You actually need to gently pry the lid away from the side of the jar. N old fashioned bottle or can opener will do the trick. This breaks the seal.
Turn the jar upside down and pound it evenly on the counter top a few of times. This loosens the seal. No tools or gadgets needed.
I use a common can opener previously used for soda cans before pop tops. I use the point upside down under the lid edge to release the suction. Works Great.
An easy way to open a jar is to use a butter knife or penny. Place under lip of lid and twist. This releases vacuum.
