Declawing is called par-digital amputation. It's not pleasant and not recommended. If you have your cat's nails trimmed monthly and provide him appropriate toys, you should not have a problem. Please look into it before making such a decision. And no, a shelter normally will not perform this as it goes against their policies. Sometimes you can adopt a cat that was surrendered already declawed...

NO the animal welfare association said that they do not declaw any animals cat or other wise period
