I saw a couple of small dogs carried but there are signs posted dogs aren't allowed.

I believe they don't allow dogs b/c of food. Plus I think it would be sort of overwhelming for a dog. It's almost overwhelming for me. Lot's of people & they are stopping, going, looking. Thousands of people feet.

You can...I brought my small dog and was asked to carry her while walking through the market...Some shops and restaurants on market street have water bowls out..Charleston was very dog friendly

They aren't allowed in SOME areas because they sell food. Otherwise, it is quite narrow and crowded, and unless your dog is people-friendly and or a leash/carried, I think you should be fine.
