I believe it was announced that next year (2019) there would be a women's event preceding the men's. This would be a first. As to the "why" , I think Google could illuminate some possible explanations
There is no LPGA tournament at the Masters, but starting next year, there will be a amature women's tournament. As for why, you might be able to draw inferences on the fact Condelisa Rice became the first women member of Agusta just a few years back...of the exclusive 300 members, there are only 2 women
NO...But, 1st female amateur championship WILL take place week b4 Masters in 2019. WHY-> Is a private club...can do whatever they wish. Was there all last week. ANGC is including female members & lady's golf in an accelerated manner since Mr. Ridley is the new Club Chairman.
I was there this past week too and Scott above is correct. I feel it's only a matter of time before there's a women's Masters and this women's amateur championship is the first step in seeing that reality. In fact, LPGA stars were asking (jokingly) if they could return to amateur status when this was announced. The good news, Mr. Fred Riley, the new Club Chairman, and former USGA President, was a heck of a golfer himself and, he has 3 daughters who also love golf ;)
