I have a GPSMAP 188/188C/238 Sounder made by Garmin that will not start up ..If I can buy another Garmin, can I use the existing transducer that came with this one. Is there an adapter that will fit my 13 pin circle plug and connect to new unit.

Unfortunately, Garmin no longer uses that 13 pin system, so everything would need to be replaced. If you would like to discuss this further, you can call Don @352-622-7757 and he would be happy to help you.
