So, I am watching Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, from 2013 making the Barbecue Sundae. The chef mentions "no seasoning, because the 1000 year old pit will do it all". How is the pit 1000 years old, in America?

For real? Or was an expression. Who cares if it was 100 months old? The burnt ends kick butt.

It's actually a 60 year old smoker out in the back. "Emphasis" is key on DD&D.

I think they may have meant to say 100 im not sure. Good catch though!
