I had a metal plate on my legs and to be precautions I have kept a letter from hospital whenever I travel. It was only detected on couple of times and I produced the letter immediately. So on the safer side please keep the letter.
Yes if you want to avoid full pat down, but theyll still let you through even if you dont have it after they do a full search and clear you.
Your doctor should have provided you that information after your surgery
